Hey, my name is Emily!
and this is Izzy, my adorable Calico Cat.
Here’s a little bit about my story and how Ava came to be.
In case you were wondering, I don’t actually have a physical robot named Ava. She’s just a fun mascot we created because well, life and business are more fun this way.
It all started back in 2017 in a character home that we all called “The Roanoke Farm”. 4 roommates, 1 cat, and a whole lot of love and transformation.
My dear friend and colleague, Megan, and I both embarked on our entrepreneurial journeys while living in the two attic rooms of The Roanoke Farm. She started a Social Media Management company BNL Media, while I was making an attempt as a Registered Holistic Nutritionist.
I was creating some marketing material for the program I was launching, and that was when Megan noticed that I had a natural knack for copywriting.
I had no idea what copywriting was… seriously. I assumed it was that thing when somebody isn’t able to “copy” your work.
LOL!
At the time I had recently taken a leap of faith and quit the restaurant industry. I found myself employed at an accounting firm as an administrative assistant and I gained a lot of small business financial skills. I knew I wanted to “do my own thing” but I wasn’t totally sold on nutrition and I didn’t know why.
When Megan told me that one day she was going to hire me to be a copywriter for BNL, it made my heart sing.
That day came less than a year later. Those seeds got planted, and they grew faster than the Tree of Heaven.
My role quickly expanded. First into doing various other tasks, then all of the other tasks, and then eventually into a management role. We realized that technically, I was Megan’s Virtual Assistant. I didn’t have an accurate label for what my role was until then.
And then the referrals started coming in. I would meet with business owners and discuss their digital needs and if I thought I could do it, I did! I am able to pick up most computer apps, programs, and softwares naturally. If I didn’t know how to do something or couldn’t figure it out in 5 minutes (I don’t mess around), I simply asked on the program chat or phoned in and asked. What I found is that most programs run the same basic principles and are intuitive provided that one is computer savvy. If there are more complicated steps, tutorials are typically provided in their help section.
So, essentially I learned how to do a lot of things for my clients - and fast!
I honestly didn’t name my company for like… 3 years. Actually though. I had such a hard time choosing a name. It was when I dropped below my neck and into my heart space that the word “awesome” kept appearing in my thought bubbles. And so, Awesome Virtual Assistance was born and adorable Ava became our mascot.
Hello friend!
Looking back, it all makes sense why the nutrition venture didn’t come to fruition. I truly believe that everything happens for a reason. As long as we are operating from the frequency of love, keeping a close connection with the Divine and finding time for JOY every single day, we will live good lives.
I feel very blessed to do what I love every single day.
I’ve loved computers since I was old enough to use one. I would play around with website building (for hours) and even made a fan webpage for my pre-teen celebrity crush Aaron Carter (it’s okay, you can laugh). I wouldn’t say I chose to be a virtual assistant, it chose me.
And I’m glad that it did because I really do love computers. So, don’t mind me - I’ll just be nerding out like a boss over here.
Thanks for reading my story! If you want to chat about working together, I’d love to meet you.
